What To Expect From Millennium Golf Course In Algarve
Overview
Opened in 2000, Millennium Golf Course is part of the seven courses associated with Oceanico Golf in Algarve, Portugal. It shares its clubhouse and legacy with the Laguna Course in Vilamoura.
The course was initially part of Laguna’s 27-hole layout, but another 9 holes were added to make it a conventional par 72 golf course. UK Architects Hawtree & Sons did the renovation and new construction.
Front 9
Players get the opportunity to test their abilities on the relatively straightforward opening holes. Hole 1 is a 325-meter short, dogleg right par 4. Hole 2 is 391-meter straightaway par 4.
Holes 3-7 wind their way through mature trees, which may cause more difficulty for higher handicaps. With a traditional parkland style, the Front 9 has a beautiful setting for golf.
Back 9
The back nine is part of the original Laguna 27 hole layout, and it is a bit more open. However, three challenging finishing holes await players at the end of their round. Holes 16, 17, and 18 all demand accurate tee shots as trouble awaits players who stray from the fairway.
Standout Stretch of Holes
The middle section of the front 9 provides players with a great variety of holes that require excellent shot making and strategic decisions.
- Hole 4 is a par 5 with several trees surrounding the green and preventing certain aerial attacks. You’ll have to place your second shot with precision to give yourself an opportunity with a short iron in your hand.
- Hole 5 is the number 1 handicap hole. A right to left dogleg par 4, it requires a perfectly placed tee shot to right side of fairway. Trees protect the inside of the dogleg and a bunker guards tee shots that travel too far down the right.
- Hole 6 - At just 151 meters from the back tees, this picturesque par 3 requires an accurate short iron from all players. A right greenside bunker collects shots intentionally played away from a small lake to the left of the green.
Beginner and Budget Friendly
With mature tree lined fairways on the front and water only coming into play on a few holes, Millennium Golf Course is suitable for high handicappers while providing mid to low handicappers with a challenge. If you’re driving the ball with precision and confidence, you will find yourself in position to attack most of the greens at Millennium.
While not in the same league as other Oceanico courses like the Old Course or Victoria, Millennium Golf Course will give you a taste of each of those courses at a lower price.
