What To Know About The Alto Golf Course In Portimao

If you have been playing golf for a number of years, then you would certainly know the legendary Sir Henry Cotton! He was a greatly successful professional golfer and won several major championships! Well, guess what? He’s the designer for the Alto golf course at Pestana Resort in Portimao in Portugal.

As you may be aware, Portugal is certainly one of the best places in Europe to play the game. That’s because the weather is always nice there and you don’t have to worry about the coldness in Portugal. If you were planning for a holiday, then it would be wise to visit Portimao and play the Alto course. Just in case you were ever wondering, here are some fun facts about it.

Beach & Golf

This is one of the promotions that are offered by the club! It certainly is worth the time to fly to Portugal and enjoy your relaxing time there. There are not many places in the world that allow you to play golf and then relax on a beach afterwards, so this is certainly an opportunity for you. Just imagine the warmth of the sand!

‘Sir Henry Challenge’

That’s the name of a hole on the Alto course – and it is a 600 metres or 660 yards par-5. It is certainly a monstrous hole and even the best players won’t be able to reach it in two! Again, there are not many courses in the world that can offer such a long par-5 and the Alto course is certainly one of them. It would be a good experience for you to play this hole and see what you can score there. In my opinion, if you manage to salvage a par, it would already be a very decent score!

There is an academy there!

Want to improve? Well, there is an academy at Pestana Resort and all you have to do is just contact a coach there. Surely, the quality delivered will be very high and you are almost guaranteed to get something out of it. A good idea would be to get a quick lesson before you play your round. Then you could evaluate the effectiveness of the lesson. Don’t expect too much though! Just play golf and don’t think about anything else – that’s the only way that you will perform under pressure! Hope you have enjoyed this short guide!

The Climate is Excellent

weather on the resorts

Portimao golf courses are in a region of Portugal that has an amazing climate. Portimao is close enough to the shore to enjoy the cool sea breezes, but far enough away that it doesn’t rain all of the time.

The Mediterranean and temperate climate also keeps the temperature fairly comfortable for golfing, which means that Portimao golf courses are ideal in almost every way in terms of weather.
